Crime Nearby: Teen Accused of Threat to Station Workers

Here are some of the crimes reported in other Long Island communities in the last week.

East Setauket

Suffolk County police arrested a Stony Brook teenager after he allegedly threatened to stab gas station employees.

According to one employee, who only asked to be identified as Mike, the 17-year-old asked for premium gas, which the BP at 728 Route 25A had sold out of earlier that morning. From there, tensions escalated quickly, he said.

"He told us we better go find it," the employee said, adding that a little bit of foul language was thrown into the exchange. "So we told him 'You gotta go. We don't have it.' He said 'I got a knife on me. I'm going to stab you guys.'"

Suffolk Police said they are charging the teenager involved in Monday's incident, Jared Giacolone, as an adult on misdemeanor charges of second-degree menacing and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He is expected to be arraigned at a later date.

West Babylon

The Suffolk County Police Department arrested a West Babylon man on Tuesday morning for violating a town-issued curfew in areas south of Montauk Highway.

According to the First Precinct, Robert Ernst, 54, of West Babylon, was reportedly seen by homeowners in an area of Babylon Village on Little East Neck Road at 4:45 a.m. on Tuesday morning, south of Montauk Highway in the curfew-zone.

Suffolk Police caught up with Ernst minutes later and placed him under arrest for violating New York State Executive Law, a misdemeanor.

The Village of Babylon's Mayor Ralph Scordino issued a curfew last week shortly before the Town of Babylon followed suit. The curfew prohhibits non-residents from entering areas in Babylon Village, Lindenhurst and other areas in the town south of Montauk Highway due to the extensive damage and power outages caused by Hurricane Sandy.

Ernst was released on bail.

Plainview

An attempt to siphon gasoline from cars in Syosset has led to the arrest of three people on theft and drug charges, Nassau County Police said.

Second Squad detectives said they observed a man pulling on door handles of vehicles parked in the lot of Lifetime Fitness on Robbins Lane in Syosset Tuesday afternoon.

A Second Precinct officer approached the man, identified as John Mullaly 30, of 27 Meyers Ave., Hicksville. While questioning him, two other people, Michael Ioveno 37, of 12 Rim Lane, Hicksville, and Jaclyn Accetta 23, of 125 12th Ave., Sea Cliff, approached the officer in their vehicles.

Police determined that the the three were attempting to siphon gasoline from vehicles in the lot, detectives said. The phenomenon has been reported around the region following Hurricane Sandy and the short-term shortage of fuel.

According to police:

• Mullaly is charged with attempted petit larceny and drug-related charges.
• Ioveno is charged with attempted petit larceny, possession of burglar tools and a drug-related count.
• Accetta is charged with attempted petit larceny and possession of burglar tools.

All three were arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.

Massapequa

A teen who broke into a Massapequa Park pharmacy was arrested Wednesday night on charges of trying to steal prescription drugs, police said.

Andrew Walsleben, 16, allegedly broke into the front window of Arlo Drug Store on Front Street at 11:40 p.m.

Witnesses called police when they allegedly saw Walsleben run out of the pharmacy and head toward the back of the building, authorities said.

Wasleben, who was bleeding from his head and legs after cutting them on the glass, was nabbed by authorities a short distance later.

Police said he took more than $3,000 worth of prescription drugs. The teen was charged with burglary, possession of a controlled substance, possession of stolen property and criminal mischief.

Wading River

A Wading River health care aide had been charged with stealing from the elderly client she was hired to care for.

Southampton Town detectives arrested Tara E. Clark, 37, of Wading River on Oct. 26 and charged her with stealing over $1000 from an elderly man living in Eastport that she was hired by his family to watch over.

The investigation, spanning several months, revealed that Clark used the victim's personal bank card and bank account to obtain money to pay for personal expenditures including a tattoo parlor and nail salon, police said.

Clark was charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree.

Riverhead

Road rage led to violence in Riverside when a woman hit an 80-year-old man with a tire iron, police said.

Southampton Town Police said on Oct. 13, Rochelle Allen, 41, of Riverside was arrested by the Southampton Town Police detective division after she allegedly struck an 80-year-old man in the head with a tire iron after a road rage incident at Enterprise Drive in Riverside.

Allen was charged with assault in the second degree, a felony, and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a felony.

She was processed at Southampton Town Police headquarters and later arraigned at Southampton Town Justice Court.

Lake Ronkonkoma  

A Farmingville man is in trouble after police say he sold gas directly out of a fuel delivery truck in a Lake Ronkonkoma parking lot Sunday night. 

Robert Faulkner, 48, was issued summonses for handling flammable liquids without a permit and for improper dispensing of flammable liquids. 

Faulkner was selling the fuel for $4.80 a gallon from a truck from the company he owns--Direct Marine Fuel Corporation--in the Lake Shore Plaza parking lot on Portion Road outside of the old Waldbaum's, police said. 

Officers who responded to a call observed more than 100 vehicles gathered in the lot and along Portion Road waiting to fill up. 

A fire marshal from the Brookhaven Town Department of Building and Fire Prevention responded and issued Faulkner the summonses.  

The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance was also notified, police said.
