New Hyde Park
A pair of men robbed the store in New Hyde Park Monday morning.

According to police from the , the two thieves entered through a side receiving door to the business when a 45-year old answered a bell at the door at 7:06 a.m., pointing a handgun at the subject.

The subjects forced the victim into the store office where a second male victim, age 50, was doing paper work. The subjects ordered the victims to open the safe and removed an undetermined amount of cashbefore fleeing out the side door in an unknown direction.

The first subject is described as a male black, mid twenties, 5’7” tall, thin build, wearing a blue baseball cap and white tee-shirt. The second subject is described as a male black, mid-twenties, 5’10” tall, thin build, wearing a black baseball cap, white tee shirt and armed with a semi automatic handgun.

Massapequa
A Huntington man on a motorcycle sped past troopers on the Southern State Parkway early Monday Morning, state police said.

Shakir Smith, 32, was spotted speeding east toward Farmingdale near the Bethpage Parkway exit in North Massapequa at 1:37 a.m. He allegedly refused to stop and kept going towards Babylon with officers in pursuit. The motorcyclist got off in Babylon to drop of his passenger and then sped off again, according to cops.

Officers caught up with the passenger who gave them Smith's identity.  When troopers arrived at his home, Smith allegedly fled on foot. But he was nabbed a short time later by troopers and police dogs.

Smith was charged with fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle 3rd, resisting arrest, reckless driving, aggravated unlicensed operation and several traffic violations.

Massapequa
John McKnight, 36, was charged with boating while intoxicated after allegedly slamming into the dock of a 75-year old woman at the end of Ocean Avenue on July 3 and then left the scene without identifying himself. To read more about incident, click .

Riverhead
More than 750 young people gathered on North Oakland Drive in Riverhead early Sunday morning, fighting, blocking traffic and engaging in disorderly conduct, police say.

Riverhead Town Police report that at approximately 3:10 a.m. on Sunday morning, they responded to reports of a "large disturbance" on North Oakland Drive. Upon arrival, they found over 750 "unruly" youths congregated, engaged in disorderly conduct, and blocking traffic.

While no cause for the fighting has been determined, Riverhead police say they do not believe gang activity was involved. Police said Sunday morning that such events do happen from time to time, after young people leave a party or other event, but that the reports do not usually include such a large number of youths.

Lindenhurst
A Copiague man has been arrested and charged with several burglaries in Lindenhurst.

Described by the offices of Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota and acting Police Commissioner Edward Webber as "a prolific cat burglar," Errol D. Barham Jr., 22, of Copiague, was arrested on Sunday, July 8, by First Precinct detectives.

The SCDA and SCPD indicated Barham's currently charged with six break-ins and one attempted burglary in Lindenhurst, and is the prime suspect in at least 10 other burglaries on the South Shore.

According to detectives, formal charges against Barnham include six counts of burglary in the second degree, one count of attempted burglary in the second degree and one count of unlawful possession of marijuana.

All of the burglaries occurred between 12 a.m. and 4 a.m. while the homeowners were asleep in their homes, police noted.

Point Lookout
A large swastika was found drawn in chalk on a road in Point Lookout early Saturday morning, Nassau County Police reported.

According to detectives, a police officer on routine patrol saw five orange traffic cones blocking traffic near Lido Boulevard and Glenwood Avenue. Upon further inspection he found the 3' x 3' drawing. Other obscenities and offensive slogans were also written, police state.
