Couple Accused of Endangering Child

Plainview pair face charges after police find them sleeping in a Huntington Station parking lot.

A Plainview couple was arrested Sunday morning on charges of drug possession and endangering the welfare of a child after police found them sleeping in a car  in a car parked at the lot on West Jericho Turnpike.

Suffolk County police said that officer Jennifer Kosior found Bradley Pearl and his girlfriend, Elizabeth Shoppman, both of 4 Shelly Court, Plainview, sleeping in a parked, running 2011 Hyundai Elantra in the King Kullen lot at 275 West Jericho Turnpike. Shoppman’s 4-year-old son was in the backseat. Police said the couple was under the influence of drugs.

Second Squad detectives charged Pearl with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child 15 years old or younger, a felony under Leandra’s Law, criminal possession of a controlled substance, 7th degree, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Shoppman was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, 7th degree, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Pearl, 26, will be held overnight at the Second Precinct, and Shoppman, 34, will be held at the Fourth Precinct. Both will be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Central Islip.

The child is in the care of a neighbor and Nassau County Child Protective Services was notified.

Two other stores, and Harbor Freight Tools, share the same lot, and a request for a is pending.
