An unlicensed driver lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a Huntington Station home, sparking a fire early Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Dinia Chirinos, 22, of Huntington Station, was driving a 2001 Subaru Forrester heading south on Hillwood Drive when she lost control of her vehicle and crashed onto a lawn, damaging the landscaping and a tree at 98 Hillwood Drive, Suffolk County police said.

The driver then proceeded to 100 Hillwood Drive, causing damage to landscaping and a fence, according to police. She crossed over Hillwood Drive and crashed into a house at 101 Hillwood Drive at 5:27 a.m. The vehicle then caught fire.

"It was a fairly large flame for a while," homeowner Kim Valerio told Newsday.

The Huntington Manor Fire Department responded and was assisted at the scene by the Huntington Fire Department, with standby coverage by Melville Fire Department.

Chirinos claimed that her brakes failed, police said. She was checked out by ambulance personnel at the scene and declined medical treatment.

Police say there was extensive damage to the front of the house and Chirinos’ vehicle due to the fire.

A 59-year-old woman was in a bedroom in the house, but escaped injury.

Chirinos was arrested and charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

The SUV is being impounded for a safety check.

Police say the investigation is continuing.

BTW to do that kind of damage you had to be hauling chorizo through that neighborhood. At LEAST 50-60 mph is my guess. Of COURSE your brakes won't 'work' when you try and slow down from 60 in 5 feet!

my guess is the owner and boyfriend was really driving drunk, and ran off leaving her behind to take the rap, much like a similar incident in Southdown last year...
