Cops: Drunk Driver Carrying Cocaine Crashes Into Police Car

A Huntington Station man was charged with driving while intoxicated after crashing his vehicle into the police car during a traffic stop early Sunday.

Police say Mario Moradel, 44, was pulled over at 1:15 a.m. at the intersection of W. 15th St. and 11th Ave. in Huntington Station. As an officer approached the vehicle, Moradel suddenly backed up and struck the parked squad car.

Moradel, of 65 W. 11th St. in Huntington Station, was found to be intoxicated, and in possession of a small amount of cocaine, according to police. Moradel was also charged with DWI one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance, seventh degree.

Moradel was arrested and transported to the where he is being held for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip. 

No injuries were reported in the crash.
