Coach Accused of Harassment Due in Court

Huntington man argued with rival, then sent menacing messages, police say.

The youth baseball coach arrested on Sept. 21 on charges of sending an opposing coach and his family menacing texts and surveillance photos is scheduled to appear Tuesday at a court conference in Suffolk County First District court in Central Islip.

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said Robert Sanfilippo, 45, of Huntington, is charged with 20 counts of aggravated harassment and one count of stalking.

Approximately two months after Sanfilippo and rival coach John Reardon of Commack argued at a May baseball tournament, Reardon received a series of texts and surveillance photos of himself and his wife.

The text message that spurred the victim to contact Suffolk police included a photo of his young son waiting for a school bus. Sanfilippo’s text suggested Reardon instruct the boy not to talk to strangers.
