Blaze Damages Woodbury Road House

No injuries reported in early morning fire.

A home on Woodbury Road was severely damaged by a fire that broke out early Wednesday morning.

Huntington Fire Department Assistant Chief Robert Berry said the fire was burning on the first and second floors and the attic when his firefighters arrived  after receiving the call at 1:28 a.m.

"About three quarters of the house" was ablaze, he said.  The department used an aerial ladder, among other equipment, to put out the fire, which took about 90 minutes.

"The guys did a great job considering the conditions and the amount of fire," Berry said.

A neighbor said flames could be seen shooting from several parts of the house.

The house was empty when the fire broke out, he said. About 89 firefighters from Huntington Manor, Halesite, Cold Spring Harbor and Greenlawn assisted, while the Huntington Community First Aid Squad stood by.

One building near the house and on the same property experienced minor damage.

Barry said no injuries were reported.
