2 Injured in Crash but Puppy Unharmed

Driver of vehicle carrying dog flees the Park Avenue crash scene.

A two-car crash on Park Avenue in Huntington left two women injured, authorities said. But Greenlawn Fire Department personnel rescued a puppy unharmed from its crate.

The crash involved a car and a sports utility vehicle that overturned onto its roof.

The driver of the SUV fled the scene, leaving the puppy behind in a crate. The Greenlawn Rescue Squad took the women, who suffered non-life threatening injuries, to Huntington Hospital.

Firefighters comforted and kept the young pitbull warm, and it was later taken to the Huntington Animal Shelter.

About 25 Greenlawn firefighters and EMS personnel were on the scene with two heavy rescue trucks and two ambulances.

Suffolk Police, Emergency Service and K-9 units were also on the scene.
