Elections Are Not Term Limits

While Mr. Cuthbertson’s flippant remark is typical of a town board member that feels that the public can be bamboozled by his divine logic, he is clearly making the case as to why we need term limits.

Career politicians, those who substitute personal ambition for public service, usually begin their campaign for their second term immediately after their first.
Drunk on power, prestige and flattery, our former neighbors waste little time in getting in front of the camera to hold the golden shovel or smile during ribbon cutting ceremony.

Unfortunately, the damage that they can do is not limited to just defacing the local papers.
They are responsible for much of the urbanization of Huntington, much of which occurs far away from their own neighborhoods in Huntington.
The reality is that we cannot expect the career politicians of Huntington to impose limits on themselves.
The voters must take matters into their own hands and put term limits on ALL elected officials – not just the so called ‘policy makers.’
Because, if you don’t make policy, then you shouldn’t be elected – you should be appointed.
Hopefully, by someone who is term limited.
