Water, water, everywhere and not a drop to drink?

new economic models, online spending,

The Rubicon is the point of no return. Has the typical business model for community funding shifted permanently? That is the entire point behind my last few posts. Many other articles are speaking about tax and revenue bases for Long Island. What is the reason?

We all know that there is money out there it is just that using or getting to that funding is prohibited and sometimes dangerous. Just like those sub-primes that caused many to go underwater on their mortgages, using a non-sustainable revenue stream for funding will leave communities in the same boat. Ok, enough with the aquatic metaphors, the real fact is we have to learn to make the “seawater” drinkable and that takes a mechanism.

The mechanism is a new economic model. I have been saying it for years that the new economic model is online. How many times have you heard or seen these incredible valuations? Some are over valued – FaceBook, now scrambling to actually show a revenue model and some are very true – Google – crazy money and a true model.

The Web is where the money is kept today. And we all have made that possible. If you are looking for extra money you won’t find it in the couch cushions. More than likely your kids have beat you to that. You need to look elsewhere. Just imagine if we could stem the tide of the 2-3% tax increase every year. The first year no big change, however at year 5 or 10 you may not see a 50% increase in your tax bill? Like the crow putting pebbles into the bucket to get to the water on the bottom, it takes time to change things but if we don’t start now we might just be treading water.
