Who's cleaning up the mess?

Snow removal and school closings.

I am beginning to think the towns on Long Island should start a revolt! We pay extraordinary taxes for services our local governments can't seem to provide. We are three days after a blizzard and there are streets that are still untouched!

Our taxes are not allocated properly, stop dedicating roads and parks, stops with extras and perks for elected officials, although touching do we really need the entire front lawn of town hall to be decorated with flags, the cost of the flags and the extraordinary cost of the labor to install them probably close to 10k when all said and done. Three days later and school closings! Give me a break.

My advice to families with school age children( even though no one asked) these days schools are interested in $ , state aid is important. Your family is important to you and what is good for them. Should you have vacations planned or visiting with relatives, don' change a thing. Family times, vacations, spending time with relatives cannot be replaced, school work can always be made up.

Any teacher who is in the profession that really does it for their love of children would agree with me. Your family is not responsible for natural disasters or government inefficiencies. As far as school is concerned write an absent note( they are sick or family issues and the school will get the state aid they so desperately need. Write to your elected officials and demand account ability for their short comings . Revolt we need changes. I don't know who plowed your street (if anyone) but the gentleman who plowed mine should be fired. This is a residential street not a ski slope with moguls!!!
