Empty in Huntington: Checkers Restaurant Site

Tell us what you want on the vacant property.

Walk down Main Street or drive down Route 110 in Huntington Station and you will notice some vacant storefronts adorned with "For Rent" signs, a possible indication of the hard times the area — and country — are facing.

The Town of Huntington hasembarked on a  to spark economic growth in the area and fill empty sites with businesses and housing.

Huntington Patch will spotlight empty properties to foster discussion in the community on what can, should and could be done to rehab abandoned places.

This week's property is the former Checkers restaurant location at 1680 New York Avenue in Huntington Station which closed late last year.

There's certainly a lot of empty restaurants and businesses in Huntington Station. Any comment from our Town Board? Nothing but silence. Of course, if this happened in Dix Hills or Cold Spring Harbor, or Huntington Village, where they all live, then there'd be an issue. No representation for Huntington Station...

Anybody living in the area knows that that part of Huntington Station needs a overhaul! It's not just about the area by the train station. We need our reps in Town Hall to WAKE UP and take notice. Does anybody know when The Renaissance company headed by Donald Monti is going to get started and where will they be revitalizing exactly? We need them to work in ALL of Huntington Station...

Who is Renissance Developers? Doesn't the Town of Huntington have a planning Department, a Community Development Corporation and an Economic Development Corporation? Why do they need someone else when we pay all these other entities? I WILL be at the meeting Lauren! Thanks for the information. I want to get answers to my questions!

Usually cats stay within a few houses of home Sometimes they just hunker down under a neighbor'sRead More shed or deck. He is more likely to come to you at night when there aren't as many lawn mower sounds. Walk around with a can of the stinkiest cat food that you can find. Call to him, and listen for a response. He may answer you with soft meows. Make a trail of stinky cat food to your door and leave the can at the door overnight. Hang up signs with a photo in the neighborhood. Go door to door and tell neighbors to call you if they see him. Kids playing, and dog walkers might spot him. Once you have an idea, of where he is, you can use a have a heart trap to catch him, if he won't come to you. Some cats get so scared when they get out, that they don't recognize their humans. We have had cats disappear for months, before trapping them.
