Sandy and one politician (Lou D'Amaro) who helped.

It was one year ago yesterday at 2.30pm when we lost our lights during Hurricane Sandy. For the next 12 nights, my family and dozens of other families in Melville, struggled to find someone to help us get our power back. Many senators and congressmen had their faces all over the local news, but only one politician actually helped. Suffolk legislature Lou D'Amaro and his staff were a constant presence during the storms aftermath. His office was the only one who actually answered their phone. His office was the only one who followed up both day and night including weekends. It was so refreshing to know that someone was out there during a time where no one seemed to care. A live voice and not a recording. What a novel approach to have a politician who actually does what he says. That alone is reason to offer thanks and praise, especially in this age of gridlock.

Thanks to Legislature D'Amaro and his excellent staff.
