Education groups come to Huntington to mark Early Learning Day of Action.

Advocates came to Huntington Wednesday to mark Early Learning Day of Action, a natioal campaign to support investment in education programs.

Gathering at Rainbow Chimes, legislators, representatives of the Early Years Institute in Plainview and others spoke of the need to support President Obama's call for $75 billion for early childhood education.

"The investments we make in child care services today will not only save society money tomorrow," said DuWayne Gregory, Suffolk County legislative majority leader and chairman of the human services committee. "But it will also afford the added benefit of strengthening the social fabric of the world our children will inherit from us."

The Early Years Institute said that organizations are participating in events around the state to support early education.

EYI President Dana E. Friedman said, "The staekholders standing eside me today from the Long Island community can play a role in assuring our youngest children are ready for success in school and life."
Advocates said a national focus on early learning will build on a newly recharged state commitment to fund pre-kindergarten slots.

Nassau County legislator Carrie´ Solages said, ""The funding is a critical step for New York State's children, especially those in high-need districts."
