Legislator D'Amaro Attends State of the Counties Breakfast

Both County Executives Headlined LIA Event

Last week, I joined nearly 1,000 business leaders and other elected officials, including the Suffolk Legislature’s new Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory (right) at the Long Island Association (LIA)'s Annual State of the Counties Breakfast at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, NY.

The keynote speakers at the event were Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano and Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone. Following an introduction by LIA President Kevin Law (center), the County Executives each looked back on the previous year and the challenges they faced in leading their respective Counties. Both agreed that 2014 will present many challenges, especially ongoing budget concerns, but they vowed to continue working together to develop initiatives that are mutually beneficial to residents and businesses. Their presentations were followed by questions from audience members.

The 2014 LIA State of the County breakfast proved to be another insightful forum for us to join together and explore ways to better serve our residents. After hearing from both County Executives, I am optimistic that we are on the right course to meet and conquer the challenges we face in the year ahead.
