Past Lives and Reincarnation

Do you believe in past lives? What are your thoughts on reincarnation?

Do you believe in past lives?

The idea of past lives and reincarnation is not only a hot topic, but one filled with controversy as well. I find it's a 50/50 split when it comes to people's opinions on the matter.

I first learned about reincarnation back in the 1980's when
Shirley MacLaine came out with her book, Out

on a Limb. It was a topic that fascinated me, so I decided to pursue it
further and started reading some books by Edgar Cayce. Despite being a Catholic
(Catholics as a whole don't really believe in reincarnation), I happen to think
there is some truth to the theory.

How can we possibly accomplish everything we're supposed to
in one lifetime? There are lessons needed to be learned, relationships that
must be formed, work that needs to be done. And I don't mean housework or our
careers. I'm talking about spiritual work...the kind of work that brings us
closer to God and makes us better people during our lifetimes. I believe it
takes multiple lifetimes to achieve this. Many lifetimes, but one soul. God
creates only one of us. Our physical bodies are kind of like cars. When it gets
old and worn out, we get a new one.

How else can certain things be explained, such as why do
babies die? Why does a young person die tragically in an accident? Is that all
their life was supposed to be? I don't think so. I believe their lives continue
in Heaven, and that eventually, when the time is right, they come back. We
usually come back with other family members and even friends who've we shared
other lifetimes with.

How can a child protégé be explained? How can you explain
meeting someone for the first time, yet you feel you've known them your whole
life? How can you explain being familiar with a place you've never been to? So
many questions, so much to consider.

Last August I decided to find out for myself, and I met with
licensed psychotherapist and past-life regression therapist Richard Scheinberg.
Richard has a very successful practice in East Islip called Sunrise Counseling
Center. Richard happens to be a wonderful author as well, and I've known him
for a number of years. Richard trained under Brian Weiss, who is world renowned
when it comes to reincarnation and past lives. So I knew I was in good hands
working with Richard.

I was a bit apprehensive and wasn't sure if the process
would work for me, despite my believing in it. I spent a lot of time talking
with Richard ahead of time. He explained the whole process and he relieved my
fears. I had agreed to work with him on creating a short video which would
include excerpts from my session, along with my journey to discovering more
about my past life. We spent months working with video reporter Chris Collora,
who did a wonderful job in filming and putting it all together. The video is
really quite remarkable. If you'd like to view it, go to this link: http://www.richardcscheinberg.com/video/?vid=102

I'm not trying to convince anyone to become a believer in
past lives. I'm simply presenting information to you, so go easy on your
comments. I know my blogs have caused some controversy in the past. I'm simply giving you some food for thought...something to contemplate. If you're
interested in having your own past life regression session, you can visit
Richard Scheinberg's website at www.richardcscheinberg.com. Richard was also a
recent guest on my blogtalk radio show, "The Kerriann and Joe Show -
Spirit Connection." For your free download go to: www.blogtalkradio.com/kerriannandjoeshow/2012/07/13/past-life-regression--therapist-author-richard-scheinberg

Watch the video, listen to the radio show and check out Richard's books. See if you then become a believer in past lives.

Just a reminder I will be at the South Huntington Public
Library on Thursday, August 2, from 7:00 - 8:30 PM, giving a lecture and book
signing on Ghosts of Long Island.

Kerriann Flanagan Brosky is the author of Ghosts of Long Island; Stories of the
Paranormal
and Ghosts of Long Island II; More Stories of the Paranormal, both available on Amazon in hardcover and e-format. www.ghostsoflongisland.com

@Forward: You're the one making the assertion so it is your burden of proof. It is not my obligation to "prove otherwise". Was this discovery published in any scientific journals I might have read?

Actually she sounds like someone who has German or some Scandinavian language as her first language. It's a poor student of language who has no knowledge of it's history, Mr. Cheswick.
Ralebird August 6, 2012 at 07:49 pm
That would be "a child prodigy". The "author" should know better, or the "historian" or "ghost investigator" should get in touch with Noah Webster. As a postscript, the "ghosts" seem to have messed with the video...I'm only able to get the audio.

First off, I believe in "live & let live"....Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I don't have to agree, but I do have to respect their right....
Personally, I believe that the body dies but the energies remain...I believe that my father, who passed away over 40 years ago, is still around to guide me when I need it...I believe that these energies/spirits/ghosts/whatever you want to call them, are around us all the time.... Heaven & Hell do exist....Heaven is whatever YOU believe to be your heaven, IOW, my heaven is on/near the water...Open water (not a lake)....I can float on the sea breeze or simply feel the energy/peace of the water... My hell is being stuck on the Ashroken road (between the beach and the hill into Eaton's neck)...I'm driving a super hot sports car and have to drive 30 for all eternity...
Mels Ditties August 6, 2012 at 08:30 pm
As for reincarnation, certainly....My middle son is an old soul who has been around recently...Since he was a small child, he had an understanding, patience and maturity that was NOT learned....Odd things that he did, that he knew and that he gravitated to were definitely the presence of someone who can been thru this live before....

As far as out-of-body experiences, scientists have been able to trigger them by stimulating certain parts of the brain so it looks like the supernatural explanations are out the window.

There are quite a lot of unanswered questions, and we've answered quite a few too (in our five thousand years of recorded history). So far, not one of the questions we've answered has been ghosts, magic or anything paranormal. I think we always need to rely on reason. Reason, science, mathematics and individual, independent thinkers have given us quite a lot more than religion and paranormal "sciences". "The church says the earth is flat, but I know that it is round, for I have seen the shadow on the moon, and I have more faith in a shadow than in the church." - Galileo (amen)

christie, not sure how sexual orientation came into play here. Oh wait, that's right, you brought it up ... out of thin air. Interesting...

@Christie: “When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser.” ― Socrates
....and to educate you a little - homosexuality is not a malfunction in the same way that an African American's skin color is not a malfunction. Now I suppose you're going to say I am gay.

For what it's worth, in my religion it is believed that valkyries are reborn. Voluspa (a book in the Poetic Edda, commonly thought of as the "Asatru Bible") speaks of the first war in the world between the Aesir and Vanir beginning when Gullveig (considered to be a kenning for the Vanic Goddess Freyja) was attacked and killed in the Aesir hall of Har (Odin). The spaekona whom Odin consults about Ragnarok states: "Thrice they burned the thrice reborn; ever and anon, even now She liveth."

I think the Shirley MacLaine theories were pretty interesting. She was beautiful, talented, rich and successful, she's living a long, comfortable life, so she must have been extra special in her past lives. Using that reasoning, the sick kids in the cancer ward, or the Japanese children that were swept into the Pacific by the Tsunami, or the diseased, starving African children must have all been rotten scoundrels in their past lives. That's a very convenient theory for Shirley, isn't it?
Janet Russell August 8, 2012 at 02:08 pm
Well we certainly got some great responses. As a Spiritual Medium, that does beleive in God and I do respect all aspects of whatever an indivdual personal beliefs are, I have done many readings from Spirit and I am one of the most skeptical people but when I have contact with those on the other side, they give me special messages to those loved ones that are so happy to hear from those that have passed over, I have had a near death experience, so when i give messages, it makes that person so comfortable and there is no way that I would know certain aspects of that persons life, but those on the other side give me specific events and things that have happened. To those persons, I enjoy what I do immensley. I am doing a few events coming up locally if you are interested these are some of them on Aug 28 I will be doing An Evening of Spirit at The Marriot Courtyard you can reserve with them at 631 337 1603 Dinner included, Sept 8 Fundraiser for Farmingville FD Call for info 631 379 3794 or 631 696 4549, Sat Sept 29 Terryville FD Call 631 331 1628 for Info, Fri Oct 19 Medford FD call for info 631 289 7350 or 631 289 3855 for info on tickets and fee, Janet is very wellknown worldwide for her Insight/Accuracy and on target predictions. Many Blessings to all Keep up the good work Kerry

Wayne Dyer had an interesting answer to that -- something about order in the universe -- God being an orderly power + that everything that happens is meant to be.

Ms. Russell, have you ever applied for the One Million Dollar Paranormal Challenge?
http://www.randi.org/site/index.php/1m-challenge.html It's such a win/win for you mediums out there. Not only do you get a cool million bucks but more importantly you get to silence those pesky skeptics who think you're all frauds! Funny though... no medium has ever even been TESTED in this challenge! They must know something (I mean, you know, besides where dead Aunt Ginny left the remote control)
Paul L. August 8, 2012 at 05:59 pm
I've always wondered why past lives that people claim to have lived were always as important, significant people - kings or queens, etc. I have never heard anyone say that in a past life he was a beggar or a street urchin.
Paul L. August 8, 2012 at 06:02 pm
Sylvia Browne agreed to be tested by Randi but then wimped out when it came time to set up the testing. It's been over 5 years and she still has not responded.

Interesting. This is the first video I've seen on The Patch and a full, 15 minute one promoting a specific "belief system" (reincarnation). Patch, does this mean that, in the name of 'equal access' and 'fairness', you will post a video of one of my Sunday sermons on having a relationship with Christ instead of the ocean?
Micah Danney (Editor) August 8, 2012 at 07:39 pm
Hi Reverand,
Absolutely. You can sign up as a blogger and submit anything you want.
swataz August 8, 2012 at 07:40 pm
None of us living people typing at our computers "know" anything about what happens after we die, so I don't see what the point is in arguing.
Eileen Coles August 8, 2012 at 07:54 pm
Basically it's all about lessons that need to be learned. In one life you have a lot of something - maybe money, power, good looks, born into a privileged family, or whatever. In another you need to learn what it's like to not have these things. I think the best known person who had a clue on the purpose of reincarnation was George Harrison. A lot of his songs like "Within You And Without You" or "Living In The Material World" show a good understanding of what the spiritual "meta" world is and an awareness that what we perceive in this one isn't all there is.
John Cocchiola August 8, 2012 at 08:20 pm
Harry Houdini started the work debunking the frauds, Randi continued it, and does important work. Penn and Teller have added their voices too exposing frauds too (at least Penn).
christie nicolle August 8, 2012 at 10:46 pm
Rev. look forward to your video on Jesus -- instead of the ocean, (that was funny)...
p.s. can you mention something about Heaven + being reunited with dead loved ones?
Mung Bean August 8, 2012 at 10:57 pm
How one reads the Bible determines one's "Church." For example, Catholics see Communion as Transubstantiation, a holy sacrament where the wine and wafer transform into the actual blood and body of Christ. Lutherans see Communion as Consubstantiation, a holy sacrament where the wine and wafer remain a wine and wafer but the Spirit of Christ enters the body. Most other Protestants from the Calvinist strain (Baptists, Presbyterians, Episcopalians, Amish etc.) don't have any sacraments so Communion is just a ceremony to commemorate and respect Christ - the wine and wafer are wine and wafer and no Holy Spirit enters the body - it has no "cleansing" aspect for the soul.
Eileen Coles August 8, 2012 at 11:53 pm
Some people place value on money and it is the only thing they value. How much does one million dollars mean to a land wight or a being of energy? Money is not a priority in these places. It's just more "stuff" - paper and lumps of metal. Might as well offer them a million pebbles. There's very good reasons why money can't buy these abilities. If you think the world is screwed up now, heh... imagine if real clairvoyance or shamanic power was something you could buy. A recipe for instant worldwide chaos, LOL!
Susie August 9, 2012 at 12:21 am
Mr Abbott
I agree most people do worry too much. As far as the Bible goes--this I know is true-- Matt 11 :28-29 Jesus speaking" Come unto me, all you who are weary and heavy burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." From experience speaking now-- I did what this suggested, I went from being an anxiety ridden worrisome person to peaceful even in the storms of life. God is good all the time!! Anyone reading I suggest you too, if your having a tough time here in the present...Go to the source of true peace --Jesus really does save!
DaddyGuru August 9, 2012 at 02:22 am
Watch out, the wolves are encircling the sheeple to feed on your mind and money .we have the holy men, the Spiritual Mediums ,the reincarnationist ,what cons of nonsense will come next?
Charlie Cheswick August 9, 2012 at 02:49 am
Eileen, it's not about "buying these abilities." No one is claiming that. The money is a bonus to something much more valuable to a medium---genuine credibility.
However, no one has come forth because they all know it to be complete bollocks. Why come forward to risk being humiliated & discredited when people will pay hand over fist regardless of the credibility. I'm sure this is the mediums thinking (forgive the usage) and as con artists it makes sense.

Just a short thought to get the word out quickly about anything in your neighborhood.
Share something with your neighbors. Write a new post... What's up? Make an announcement, speak your mind, or sell something

Usually cats stay within a few houses of home Sometimes they just hunker down under a neighbor'sRead More shed or deck. He is more likely to come to you at night when there aren't as many lawn mower sounds. Walk around with a can of the stinkiest cat food that you can find. Call to him, and listen for a response. He may answer you with soft meows. Make a trail of stinky cat food to your door and leave the can at the door overnight. Hang up signs with a photo in the neighborhood. Go door to door and tell neighbors to call you if they see him. Kids playing, and dog walkers might spot him. Once you have an idea, of where he is, you can use a have a heart trap to catch him, if he won't come to you. Some cats get so scared when they get out, that they don't recognize their humans. We have had cats disappear for months, before trapping them.
