NAACP Meet The Candidates Event

Last evening, the NAACP and the Ecumenical Ministerial Alliance hosted a Meet the Candidates event in my part of town at the South Huntington Public Library.  I am very pleased to have seen so many residents turn out to hear the candidates speak on the issues and engage with each other.

From my perspective, it was an illustration of the “old guard” responsible for getting us into a fiscal mess at the local and county level, vs. new ideas and real experience managing tough issues such as the county’s debt, rising crime issues, and the urbanization of our beautiful suburban community.  I made the point to all in attendance how my opponent represents the “gang that couldn’t count straight” leading us into this current fiscal disaster.  We need thought leadership to address what the problems Suffolk County is facing, get clear of the mess, and build a better future for generations to come.

I said this last night to those in the audience which is paraphrasing Patrick Henry.  On Election Day, decide on the future you want by the actions of the past.  Those who are in office today have failed miserably.  Only until we have “new blood” in the Legislature will our problems be resolved.

Finally, my congratulations to Ms. Dana Beard who managed very well as the evening's moderator.
