Huntington Football Hosts Hauppauge on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Get set for a barnburner Saturday afternoon at Blue Devil Field as the Huntington High School football team hosts Hauppauge at 1 p.m. in a Suffolk Division III quarterfinal game.

No. 4 Huntington compiled a 5-3 record during the regular season while the Eagles went 6-2. The Blue Devils have outscored their opponents this fall by a 174-163 margin. Hauppauge has scored 182 points and surrendered 113 through its first eight games.

“It should be a great game,” said Steve Muller, Huntington’s longtime head coach. “We’ll come ready to play and we’ll be playing to win.” The four winning teams in the quarterfinal round will be reseeded Saturday night for semifinal games next weekend.

Huntington topped Bellport (17-13), Westhampton Beach (35-13), Amityville (27-12), Comsewogue (21-10) and Harborfields (14-6) and lost to Islip (23-18), Miller Place (42-28) and Sayville (44-14) during the regular season.

Coached by Joe Patrovich, Hauppauge defeated Amityville (14-6), Comsewogue (20-9), Harborfields (41-31), Deer Park (21-7), Rocky Point (21-7) and Kings Park (28-8). The Eagles were defeated by Westhampton Beach (23-19) and Eastport-South Manor (22-18).

 The Blue Devils will be led this weekend by quarterback Ben Kocis (91 of 179 passing for 1,232 yards and 51 carries for 393 yards rushing), running backs Levar Butts (71 rushes for 551 yards) and Troy Greene (83 rushes for 674 yards) and top receivers Christian Jamison (44 receptions for 551 yards), Davonte Evans (18 receptions for 190 yards) and Infinite Tucker (17 receptions for 287 yards).

Butts, Greene, Jamison, Evans and Tucker along with Y’Majesty Allen and Tim Mattiace are among the leading tacklers on defense, which will have to step up its game on Saturday against the Eagles.

Huntington will meet on Friday at 6 p.m. for a team dinner hosted by parents in the school cafeteria. After eating, the team will head into a meeting to discuss game strategy and watch films late into the evening.
