H-ton Senior Pens and Publishes a Novel

Daniel Moya is headed to the University of Southern California’s film school, regarded by many to be the best in the country. But, the Huntington High School senior is more than just an up-and-coming filmmaker. He’s an author, too.

The teenager recently wrote and self-published a novella, Highlights and Lowlights. It is currently available at the Kindle Store from Amazon. There is a free Kindle app for iPhone and iPad to help those with Apple devices to gain access. The book is also available to read right on your computer. Each of these options is shown on the product page on Amazon.

Mr. Moya provided this synopsis for the new book: This is a story of a man named William, who explores the reasons why his life ends up the way it does. He recounts the entirety of existence, namely the highlights and lowlights that shaped him, as we discover he exists somewhere within all of us...whether we want him to or not. This journey is thrilling and instantly gripping literature that is thought-provoking, intense and subtlety comical. Most importantly, it is relatable and relevant.

The book jumped to No. 2 on the Kindle e-book drama chart within hours of its release. It has been called a “must-read” and “amazing” by Amazon reviewers.

Mr. Moya wrote the novella in six months and went on to self-publish it. “The first line of the whole thing came to me in Mrs. [Kelly] Quintero’s AP Literature class while we were studying Hamlet and it all kind of snowballed from there,” the teenager said. “I was intrigued by the idea of writing from the perspective of a character who people alternately love and love to hate, but who we all find within ourselves somewhere.”

The senior has been a contributing member of Huntington High School’s video club, writing the weekly newscast and headlining the “Daniel Moya at the Critic's Corner” segment. The teenager has also participated in the drama club, Key club and Habitat for Humanity and belongs to the English Honor Society, Art Honor Society and the National Honor Society. He even fenced as a sophomore.

Mr. Moya was voted “Most Likely to be Famous” by fellow members of Huntington’s Class of 2013. The senior said it’s “a distinction that means a lot to me and is something I will try to live up to in the future!”
