HHS Drama Club Announces Spring Musical Production

Michael Schwendemann really does know how to keep a secret. The Huntington High School English teacher and drama club advisor has kept folks guessing about the name of the spring musical production. It’s no longer a mystery.

Into the Woods will go into production in the spring with auditions followed by rehearsals. The curtain will go up in the high school auditorium on Friday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 5 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Student interest in the spring musical is expected to run high.

If past Huntington musicals are any indicator, the show will be well-performed, with a smart set, strong acting and an exceptional pit orchestra. Information about the pre-production process, including the casting call will be announced on the Huntington School District’s website.

“The Brothers Grimm hit Broadway with an epic fairytale where worlds collide,” states Music Theatre International in an online overview of Into the Woods. “James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone’s favorite storybook characters and brings them together for a timeless yet relevant piece and rare modern classic. The story follows a Baker and his wife who wish to have a child, Cinderella who wishes to attend the King’s Festival, and Jack who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.”
