HHS Class of 2014 Valedictorian and Salutatorian Named

Brian Gilbert has been named valedictorian of Huntington High School’s Class of 2014. Marc Feldman is this year’s salutatorian. The dynamic duo has enjoyed splendid four year runs filled with across the board academic success.

Messrs. Gilbert and Feldman will give addresses at Huntington’s 153rd commencement exercises on Friday, June 27 at 6 p.m. in Blue Devil Stadium. A crowd of more than 2,000 is expected to attend.

“We are so proud of these two young men, who are situated at the top of an academically powerful Class of 2014 at Huntington High School,” Superintendent James W. Polansky said. “They have shined both in and beyond the classroom and have represented the school community in the finest manner possible. The future is theirs for the taking.”

Huntington’s top two seniors have garnered the respect and admiration of their classmates and teachers and excelled in every possible way. Their transcripts are filled with the names of the most challenging Advanced Placement courses that Huntington offers.

“I’m very proud to be at the top of such a talented class,” Mr. Gilbert said. “There are plenty of equally deserving students and I’m thankful for all their support.” The teenager has served as the vice-president of Huntington Math Honor Society, Science Honor Society and Mathletes and been a contributor to the high school student newspaper, The Dispatch.

Mr. Gilbert has captained Huntington’s Science Bowl and Quiz Bowl teams and played viola and violin in music ensembles, including the pit and chamber orchestras. He is a three-year varsity tennis player for the Blue Devils. “Outside of school I perform community service, tutoring elementary school children,” he said.

Messrs’ Gilbert and Feldman were members of Huntington’s four-man Science Bowl team that won the Long Island regional crown last winter and a spot in the national finals in Washington, D.C. (Aron Coroar and Jacob Roday rounded out the team.)
