Cinema Arts Centre to host HHS Film Fest

Huntington High School’s fourth annual film festival will spotlight some of the community’s best teenage filmmakers. The Cinema Arts Centre will host the special evening on Thursday, May 30 at 7 p.m. Tickets are not required. Admission is free. The event is open to the general public and entire families are welcome to attend.

Sponsored by the Huntington High School video club, the festival will include music videos, commercials, documentaries, silent 8MM film, short stories, stop motion, public service announcements, art movement and experimental works.

After spending its first two years in the Huntington High School auditorium, the film festival moved to the Cinema Arts Centre last spring after CAC officials extended an invitation to Huntington art teacher Heather Swan, who heads the school’s video arts program.

“We are so excited to have the Cinema Arts Centre hosting our four annual film festival,” Mrs. Swan said. “We have a spectacular line-up for this year, which will end with a 10-minute short film collaboration by seniors Daniel Moya and Melissa Rosenberg. The experience will be well worth your time.”

Huntington’s filmmakers have won many awards in festivals and contests around the metropolitan area in recent years. Several of this year’s top videos are posted on the school district’s website at www.hufsd.edu/arts/art_videos.html.

Viewers have at times been taken aback by the high quality films created by the Huntington students. The works are at times provocative, funny, poignant, tear-jerking and insightful. They feature impressive camera work, acting and editing.

The May 30 festival will showcase the “best-of-the-best” and include about 60 minutes of student productions. DVDs of the Festival will be available for $10. The Cinema Arts Centre is located at 423 Park Avenue in Huntington. Contact Mrs. Swan at hswan@hufsd.edu for more information.
