Blue Devils Reap Post-Season Awards

Huntington football players have reaped post-season awards following the Blue Devils’ county championship season. Four players were named to the All-County team and 10 earned All-Division recognition.

Seniors Levar Butts, Troy Greene, Ben Kocis and Christian Jamison were all named to the All-Division and All-County teams. Nick Arleo, Davonte Evans, Christian Gonzalez, Tim Mattiace, Jimmie Nelson and Infinite Tucker garnered All-Division honors.

“We had a great group of guys this year,” head coach Steve Muller said. “Not only are they outstanding players, but also fine young men and excellent teammates. It was an honor and pleasure to be their coach.”

A workhorse this fall, Butts rushed 133 times for 959 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also caught 12 passes for 129 yards. The teenager was also outstanding defensively, recording 120 solo tackles, including 20 for a loss, 20 assists, five quarterback sacks, two pass deflections and a blocked punt.

Greene provided his worth, game after game with 158 carries for 1,138 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also had six receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown and added a two-point conversion.  Greene also had 105 tackles, including 25 for a loss, 14 assists, five quarterback sacks, an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery and four pass deflections.

Kocis led Huntington’s offense as the team’s quarterback. He completed 116-of-228 passes for 1,687 yards and 11 touchdowns. The teenager tossed just five interceptions. He also rushed 82 times for 535 yards and eight touchdowns.

Jamison caught 49 passes for 784 yards and seven touchdowns. On defense he tallied 38 tackles, including one for a loss, 13 assists, a quarterback sack, two interceptions and six pass deflections.

Kocis also earned the Boomer Award, given in honor of former East Islip and NFL great Boomer Esiason to Suffolk’s best quarterback. Jamison won the James LaBue Award, presented to the county’s top scholar football player.

Huntington’s 10 post-season honorees include four players who will be returning to the Blue Devils next season. Tucker is a sophomore while Evans, Nelson and Mattiace are all juniors.
