Sagamore Christmas Arrives on 2 Wheels

Christmas arrived Sunday at the Sagamore Children's Psychiatric Center in Dix Hills, courtesy of LI Harley Riders.

Escorted by Suffolk County police, about 50 bikers, including Santa himself, arrived on their hogs to deliver presents to youngsters at the center. They were greeted by staff and volunteers as they arrived before heading indoors to meet the children and share cookies and juice.

It was the 12th year that Harley riders delivered presents, though previously they did so under the Lighthouse Harley riders, for the former Huntington Station Harley store. The group has about 200 members who meet at the VFW Hall on Pulaski Road in Huntington Station.

Sagamore Executive Director Tom McOlvin said the group's regular visits lifted the children's spirits. "It'sbeen so important in bringing joy to Sagamore," he said.
