New Driver's License for New York

New York State has changed the look of driver licenses. As of yesterday, once you renew or get a new license it will have two photos, one large and one small, both in black and white to make photo comparison easier. The photo and personal information are both laser engraved which makes them un-editable and tamper-resistant.

The new license was made to reduce counterfeits and has over 30 security features. The largest one being that the license for those under 21 will be printed vertically, like a playing card, to help reduce underage drinking.

The NYS DMV has started distributing the new licenses for those who apply online, and by the end of September, all DMV offices will offer the newer version.  You are not required to obtain a new license before your current one expires and there are no new fees.
