A Disgraceful Message From The Huntington Town Board

Does the Town of Huntington really expect its residents to cut up 30 foot limbs into nice and neat 4 foot bundles??

I am appalled and outraged by the message I received today from the Huntington Town Board. To my DISMAY this letter indicates that the Town will only be removing branches that are less than 6 inches in diameter and less than 4 feet in length.

The streets surrounding my home are nearly IMPASSABLE from ENTIRE TREES lying at the curb.  Based on the Town's newsletter I take it that the Town will be doing nothing about this.

Bagatelle Road has been stripped of all debris, including a nearly 40 foot tree in front of the Schmidt nursery. How is that the the homeowners and businesses along Bagatelle Road are allowed to leave debris on the curb and yet my street one block away is left to fend for ourselves? To make matters worse the drainage basin at the corner of Westcliff Drive and Half Hollow Road has been cleared of massive tree limbs, courtesy of local government forces.

I found it IRONIC that public employees can get away with littering Westcliff Drive, and yet local residents are instructed to bundle debris. The Town starts its letter attacking LIPA for their failure to perform, when in fact it is the Town of Huntington who is failing to protect its residents. If the Town's current trucks are not capable of hauling the debris littering our roadways then I suggest that they hire outside contractors to clean this mess up. I had an Illinois power company restore my power. LIPA brought in outside contractors to help with this mess. It's time the Town did the same. The Town went out of it's way to leave robocalls without any mention about how to dispose of debris.  Now that everyone has put it out on the street, including paid landscaping professionals, now we are being told that we need to perform additional work just to have the Town pick up.  In my opinion, this message SHOULD have been conveyed prior to the clean up effort commencing. My next course of action is to contact local media outlets to get cameras here on our streets to show how poorly the Town of Huntington is handling the aftermath of Sandy. Do you really expect everyone to cut up 30 foot limbs into nice and neat 4 foot bundles??  I want answers. My neighbors want answers. When will our streets be cleaned up by the Town?
