West Meadow Beach Volunteer Stewardship Day

West Meadow Beach is one of the Long Island Sound Study’s Stewardship Sites which were designated due to their recreational and ecological importance. Perennial pepperweed is an invasive plant that can be found in the upland areas of the salt marsh community within this park. Perrennial pepperweed was first discovered at the park in 2006 and it quickly spread throughout the site. This plant creates a monoculture and shades out native plants species. As such, action is necessary to stop the spread of this harmful invasive plant.

During this Stewardship Day volunteer event, participants will be removing perennial pepperweed by hand pulling and digging. This event is free, but we ask that volunteers wear long pants and bring work gloves, sunscreen, water, and bug spray. We will provide all other equipment that will be needed.

Register by July 9th by filling out the registration form at: www.tinyurl.com/stewardshipday
