Poetry Writing Workshop with Robert Gibbons
Robert Gibbons’ work has been published in numerous anthologies and he has recently released Close to the Tree, his first full-length poetry collection. Art curator and historian Marc Primus notes, “The poetry of Robert Gibbons flows from him like a mighty river. It is powerful, lyrical, strong and hip.”
Gibbons moved to New York City in 2007 in search of his muse, Langston Hughes. Gibbons’ workshop investigates the relationship between Hughes and Hughes’ idol, Walt Whitman. Investigating dialogues of the past, Gibbons will create a discussion to inspire writing in the present. In this class, Gibbons asks his students to take an introspective look at their past, to look back at the streets of their childhood and cycles of their own lives.
