Huntington Community Member Needs Your HELP!

Bob Biernacki and his family are asking for your help.

Bob and Jodi Biernacki live in Huntington with their three children: Madison, Craig, and Brooke. Bob and Jodi were both born and raised in Huntington and have been married for 25 years. They have always been involved with the local community and schools, and Bob coached boys and girls lacrosse for many years. They have been willing to lend a hand to the people of their hometown. Now they are asking for your help.

When Bob was 32 years old, he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. 22 years of living with this terrible disease has taken its toll on Bob's system and left him in a dire need. Last May, Bob suffered a stroke. The doctors determined the cause of the stroke was elevated blood pressure resulting from years of damage to his kidneys caused by his diabetes. Bob's kidneys are failing.

Bob has been enduring rigorous dialysis sessions three times a week for the past year and a half. He has withstood numerous hospital stays resulting from the effects diabetes has had on his body, especially his kidneys. As you can imagine, this has also taken it's toll on his family. Every aspect of his life has been changed.Bob is in desperate need of a kidney transplant. Bob is currently on the New York State Donor List; he can be waiting on this list for up to 6 years before he will become eligible to receive a kidney – 6 years Bob may not have. His best option is to receive a kidney from a living donor. This is where Bob and his family need your help.

Everyone is born with 2 kidneys, but most people only need one. Donating a kidney poses miniscule risk to the donor's health, and it could save Bob's life.

Bobs family has partnered with the Red Cross to organize an event to raise awareness of Bob's dire situation. This event is being held in his honor at the Halesite Fire Department on Sunday July 20th (1 New York Ave, Halesite, NY 11743). Please come to this event and donate blood in Bob's name to show your support. All blood is being donated to area hospitals.
