Colon Cancer Awareness Lecture: Early Detection Saves Lives
North Shore-LIJ Health System colorectal surgeon Dr. David Rivadeneira, MD, MBA, FACS, FASCRS, will give an informative presentation on this often silent, but treatable, cancer. All are invited to attend this free lecture and Q&A session on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, from 7:00pm to 8:00pm at the Cold Spring Harbor Library & Environmental Center.
According to the American Cancer Society, “Colon cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States among men and women, and is expected to cause about 50,310 deaths during 2014.” 250,000 people are diagnosed with colon cancer each year, but routine testing, beginning at age 50, can prevent or catch colon cancer in its earliest stages. Dr. Rivadeneira will discuss the signs, symptoms, tests, and treatments that will help attendees avoid or manage this disease.
Dr. Rivadeneira is the vice chair of surgical strategic initiatives for North Shore-LIJ Health System, director of surgical services at Huntington Hospital and the director of colon and rectal Surgery at Huntington Hospital. He is certified in colon and rectal surgery by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery and has studied the use of laparoscopic and other minimally invasive surgical techniques for treatment of colorectal diseases, including cancer. Dr. Rivadeneira will be available for questions and answers after the lecture.
