Winter Coat Drive Underway

D'Amaro asks residents to clean out their closets to help those less fortunate.

Lighten your load and help young people in need simply by cleaning out your closets.

Bring gently-used or new coats, sweaters, sweatshirts and blankets to the office of Suffolk Legislator Lou D’Amaro (D-Huntington Station) as part of the donation drive for “Every Child’s Dream,” a local not-for-profit organization that helps those less fortunate.

“Seasons come and go and children grow quickly, and we all have items in our closets that are still in wonderful condition yet no longer fit,” D’Amaro said. “Rather than throw those items out, we can donate them.  Just think about how last year’s favorite coat can keep someone warm all winter long this year.

Children of all ages are in need of all sizes, from infant to adult. Donations can be dropped off at  D’Amaro’s district office, located at 130 West Jericho Turnpike, Huntington Station, from 8:30 am and 4:30 pm Monday through Friday between now and December 8.  Drop off bins are also located in the lobby of the Suffolk County Legislature Building on Veteran’s Memorial Highway in Hauppauge. For those who prefer to offer a monetary donation, checks made out to “Every Child’s Dream” will be accepted at all drop-off locations.

“The cold weather is coming and the need will be great, so I hope that everyone will take the time to look inside their closets to find items they can donate,” D’Amaro said.  “It is a simple way to warm your heart and warm others at the same time.”
