Update: Widespread Power Outages Hit Huntington

LIPA reports 7,600 customers affected in Town of Huntington as high winds rip through region overnight.

Update, 11:45 a.m: LIPA reports 3,395 outages in Town of Huntington, including 509 in Huntington Station and 390 in Huntington.   

Severe weather overnight knocked out power to much of Long Island, with the Town of Huntington seeing its effects in the form of widespread power outages.

The Long Island Power Authority reports more than 7,600 customers were without power townwide as of 7:30 a.m. Thursday, including 1,650 in Halesite, 543 in Huntington Station and another 155 in Lloyd Harbor.

Power outages closed two schools and blocked Pulaski Road when a power pole snapped.

The National Weather Service reported gusts of 60 mph, which could bring down tree limbs or whole trees.

A high wind warning is in effect for Suffolk County through 9 a.m. Thursday.
