Jan.18: 5 Things You Need to Know Today

Good morning, everyone. Let's be kind today.

1. Be careful: it could be slippery out there as we face a "wintry mix" to start the day.

3.  After a three-day weekend, public schools will return to their regular hours. Garbage pickup will begin returning to a normal schedule, though it will take a few days to sort out.

4. Whitman High School has won a "best spirit" award and will be sending eight students and its jazz band to an awards ceremony at on Feb. 7. It beat out Holy Trinity (2) and Chaminade (3) for the top spot.

5. Petitions for one five-year term on the board of trustees are available at the reference desk beginning today. The filing deadline is Thursday, Feb. 17 at 5 p.m. The budget vote and trustee election will be held on Tuesday, April 5  from 3-10 p.m.
