Big Traffic Delays Expected Sunday

Town asks residents to take precautions to avoid delays.

With unseasonably warm temperatures and sunny skies forecast for Sunday, large crowds are expected in Huntington for several big events scheduled throughout the day — but road closures could wreak havoc on commuters trying to get into town.

The Town of Huntington has ordered parts of New York Avenue and Main Street in Huntington Village closed Sunday with access to those roads from side streets blocked from about 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for the annual St. Patrick's Day parade which begins at 2 p.m.

"Residents are asked to take this into account when planning their afternoon" said the town, in a release.

Event organizers  to be about about 25,000 annually. 

Just after the parade, doors open at 5 p.m. Sunday for a sold out 7 p.m. Paramount Theater show featuring the Celtic-American punk rock band the Dropkick Murphys.

Additionally, motorists have been advised to avoid Route 110 in nearby Melville this weekend as demolition of the 65-year-old Northern State Parkway bridge is planned.

Only local southbound traffic will be permitted on Route 110 between Schwab Road and the bridge during a , according to the New York State Department of Transportation.
