Tell Us: Crime in the Village

Do the recent armed robberies worry you?

Two armed robberies were reported in Huntington Village in the last month.

The Capital Bank on New York Avenue was held up in mid-January, with the robber escaping with an unknown amount of money.

On Saturday, the Rite Aid store on West Main Street was robbed by three men.

No one has been arrested in either stickup.

Do we need more police downtown? Or are these robberies just a fluke? Tell us in the comments.

When I was a kid, we had the Huntington Police. They'd be walking the streets and directing traffic as needed. Before the criminals get the message that there is little coverage of the village they are likely to get more brazen. I know the emphasis has been on the station area, but we can't ignore the village.

I have lived in Huntington since 1976. Yes, it bothers me hat crime has now reach our peaceful Village. I always considered Huntington as a family town, with people who know and care for each other. I'd hate to see crime break this bond. Lucia T.

Do the math....Since the Paramount, SO many more people are coming into the village, on a very regular basis. Parking has become nearly impossible in fact. This "Theatre" has in way, put Huntington "on the map" for many new people. It is another example of quality of life being chipped away, and our town leaders selling Huntington out from under us. As these accumulate, the bar continues to be lowered, and more and more things like this will happen.

So you're saying that the Paramount and parking problems are the root cause of armed robberies in the village. That's priceless. I'd consider a few other issues much higher than the Paramount on my list -- for example, here are just five, and I'm sure others will have many more....how about the total breakdown of the family unit? Political correctness that makes "faith" a dirty word? Illegals? Liberal judges that won't incarcerate thugs? And probably top on my hit parade -- how about police budgets decimated to pay for the pensions of state and local employees? Let's focus on the real problems here!

I totally agree with you about the Paramount being the root of most of our problems in Huntington Village. The Friday night leading into the early Saturday morning robbery of the Rite Aid there was a death/thrash metal concert at the Paramount including Testament & Overkill. I live in the Village and concerned neighbors reported that our town was crawling with "devil worshippers." This is not a witch hunt- the Paramount is poison to this village and is swiftly ruining the quality of life around here. My fear is that it isn't going to go away until there is a major tragedy at or stemming from the venue.

Omg...tell I misunderstood (escape). You think that illegals are the root that the robberies took place and not the american born citizen? I agree about the Paramount up to a certain degree but not about the illegals.....Sorry

Let's see what the store cameras show, Meghan, if the cops ever release it. Will it show the perpetrators were death/thrash concert "devil worshipers", or something else? I have my hunch, but lets see what the tapes reveal. Maybe you're right, lol. God help us when the Marshal Tucker Band comes to town. It will be like the Wild West!

What I said was that there are many other root causes for the problems in this town that rank higher than the Paramount and parking problems. Read it again.
