Support for Wounded Huntington Grad

Northport students plan basketball tournament to back Marine wounded in Afghanistan.

The Northport National Honor Society is sponsoring a 3-on-3 basketball tournament in support of the family of a Huntington High School graduate wounded in Afghanistan.

Marine 1st Lt. James Byler, a 2003 Huntington graduate, and son of Northport High School teacher Janet Byler, lost both his legs and both pinky fingers in October.

He is recovering at Bethesda Naval Hospital. The funds raised will go, as per James' wishes, to send care packages to soldiers still overseas on active duty.

"Ballin for Byler" will take place on Monday, Dec. 21 from 7:30-10:30 pm.

 The cost is $10 per person for registration and a t-shirt. 

Byler is a 2007 graduate of Purdue University,
