Super Bowl Theme Helps Churches Aid Needy

Congregations helping food banks through collections this Sunday.

The Centerport United Methodist Church is inviting members to wear clothing in support of their favorite NFL team this Sunday, part of its Super Bowl Sunday events.

The dress-up is part of its Souper Bowl of Caring Sunday, with congregants asked to bring a food item for donation to food pantries.

The pastors are promising to wear the jerseys of their favorite teams.

Not to be outdone, the youth fellowship of the United Methodist Church of Huntington-Cold Spring Harbor is a running a Soaper Bowl. Hygiene items such as combs, soap, toothpaste, shampoo and other items will be collected and donated to organizations assisting the needy.
