Snow Makes a Late Arrival

LIRR warns commuters of messy travel and cancellations as train derails near Jamaica.

Wet, slippery snow accumulated on the roads around Huntington Monday night before rain began to wash some of it away.

The National Weather Service said that snow will shift from the Great Lakes to the Northeast  Tuesday, with the weather tracking along the Mid-Atlantic Coast. But with temperatures predicted in the low to mid-40s, the snow should disappear.

The Long Island Rail Road warned customers Monday night to take extra caution in the wet conditions. It also said morning commuters should expect other delays and cancellations because of a non-passenger train derailment west of Jamaica station.  Service will be affected, the railroad said.
