More Snow on the Way

LIRR adds extra return trains while weather service warns of ice and sleet.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Long Island as of  Friday morning and continuing through late Friday night.

Light snow is forecast for the morning, with heavier snowfall expected late Friday morning and into the evening. Snowfall could be significant,  with sleet or ice accumulations, the weather service said.

The new snow will fall on older accumulations that have not yet melted away, making for potentially hazardous conditions.

The has scheduled extra trains for the return home, including these trains on the Port Jefferson branch:

  • 2:10 PM stopping at Jamaica, Carle Place and all stops to Huntington
  • 2:29 PM stopping at Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Jamaica, New Hyde Park, then all stops to Huntington
  • 3:24 PM stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, Westbury and Hicksville

The forecast high temperature for Friday is 36 degrees, with a low of  about 26.
