March 15: Schroff to be Recognized; Book Signing

1. Israel In Town: Rep. Steve Israel will be at Thursday to present a Hometown Hero Award to author Laura Schroff, a Whitman graduate. In attendance will be Maurice Mazyck, whose life is the main focus of Schroff’s book, "An Invisible Thread."

2. Live Music At Porto Vivo: Playing unplugged-style favorites, classic rockers Old School plays tunes from the 60s, 70s and beyond beginning at 8 p.m. at .

3. Book Signing: Author Adele Faber will read from and sign her book, "How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk," at the Book Revue at 7 p.m.

4. Did You Know? Today is National Chocalate Chip Day. The original chocolate chip cookie was invented by Ruth Graves Wakefield in the 1930's at her Toll House Inn in Whitman, Mass., according to punchbowl.com. After running out of baker's chocolate Wakefield substituted it with semi-sweet chocolate bits while baking cookies for guests. She soon discovered that the bits did not melt into the dough as baker's chocolate does.
