Huntington Gives Shoppers Lots of Halloween Costume Options

Several locations in Huntington and Huntington Station are selling anything you need to make this Halloween a fun and frightening one.

With Halloween rapidly approaching, many Huntington residents are preparing for parties and candy grabbing excursions to show off this year's costume. However, for those who are still scratching their heads, wondering what to dress up as this year, not to worry – Huntington's top costume spots are still full of merchandise and ideas.

Ricky's, Value Drugs, and Spirit Halloween are three local spots still offering a variety of outfits to show off this coming weekend.

On Main Street, Ricky's has transformed itself into a Halloween superstore with costumes, wigs and all your other spooky needs. According to one of the store's managers, Chandra Ellis, Ricky's has a unique selection that other stores don't offer.

"We specialize in things you can't find anywhere else, like things that are pertinent in the news," Ellis said. "We do our own little twist at Ricky's."

Ellis explained that the store has an affinity for keeping current events in mind, gesturing to costumes such as a BP worker cleaning oil, the attention-grabbing JetBlue worker, and last year's Ponzi schemer, but said that this year's biggest push has been Jersey Shore, with Alice in Wonderland as a close second.

"It's hard to tell what the most popular costumes are," Ellis said.  "For some reason, Sesame Street is really big this year too, for all ages."

Just a few steps up the road on New York Avenue, residents of all ages can also peruse Value Drugs, a store that has been catering to Huntington's Halloween needs for the past 12 years.

"We probably have the largest selection in Huntington Village, from low end to high end," said Value Drug manager Peter Pastorelli.

Pastorelli said the most popular choice for kids has been Toy Story paraphernalia, but there are also plenty of wigs, face paints, decorations, and candy available for anyone's party and accessorizing needs.

"We cater to what the town is looking for," Pastorelli concluded.

There are also store's like Spirit Halloween in Loehmann's Plaza in Huntington Station that pop up every October for the sole purpose of providing avid celebrators with their creative Halloween needs.

Whether looking to protect Huntington residents from Halloween's chaos or just trying to blend in with the authorities, floor staff member Laina Sarcona said young women have been stepping into the shoes (and cute uniforms) of cops and firefighters this season.

Though the uniforms are among the most frequently snagged from the shelves, Sarcona said other popular choices for the ladies have been Lady Gaga and Batman. As for the guys, many have been heading toward the mask section, complete with goblins and ghouls from the usual horror films. Little girls have favored the Amy Brown Fairy collection, she added.

So, if you're having a Halloween identity crisis, no need to panic – your temporary problems can be solved at any of these locations before you can say "Trick or Treat."
