Honoring Veterans

5 Things You Need to Know Today: Nov. 11

1 - Thank a Veteran Today! And take a detour past the on the lawn in front of Town Hall for a moving commemoration to our nation's veterans.

2 - The will mark Veterans Day by hosting Robert Farrell, author of "Our Veterans, Brave and Noble," who will present a lecture honoring Huntington's Civil War veterans. Includes a discussion of the local men and major units from the town. All are welcome. From 2-4 pm in the main auditorium.  Call the library for more details 631-427-516.

3 - The presents "The Tillman Story" at 7:30 pm, with guest speaker Camillo Mac Bica, Phd, professor of Philosophy and Ethics of War, School of Visual Arts, coordinator of the Long Island Chapter of Veterans for Peace. The military's manipulation of the tragic death of Pat Tillman in the line of fire - who left a multimillion-dollar football contract to join the military - into a propaganda tool is thoroughly explored in Amir Bar-Lev's riveting and enraging documentary. 4 - The North Shore Civil War Roundtable book group will meet at Barnes & Noble in Huntington Station for Michael Russert's lecture, "The Artful Story: Michael Shaara, Gettysburg and the Killer Angels" at 7:30 pm. Newcomers are always welcome.

5 - Applebee's, including the location in Huntington Station, will thank our nation's veterans and active duty military by inviting them for a free meal from a special Veterans Day menu. Lunch will begin at 10 am and dinner will be served until midnight or later. Get more information on their website.
