Conte's Office Taking Holiday Donations

Toys for Tots and Caring for Children Holiday Drive are recipients of assemblyman's effort.

The holiday season is a time for traditions, and Assemblyman Jim Conte started one 23 years ago that helps to bring some holiday cheer to local families who are in need.

From now through Christmas, Conte's office will once again collect necessities for families with infants and toddlers through the Caring for Children Holiday Drive, and new and unused toys, which will be distributed in conjunction with the  Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program.

"The holidays are about taking a moment and giving thanks for the many blessings we have been given. They are also about helping those in need by sharing some of our good fortune and giving back to the community," said Conte.  "That is why I am pleased to again sponsor the Caring for Children Holiday Drive and to participate in the Toys for Tots program.  Each of these wonderful initiatives helps to ensure that underprivileged children have a little more cheer and happiness during the holiday season."

Items collected will be distributed to local church organizations as well as homeless and domestic violence shelters. In addition to new toys, items that are needed include diapers, playpens, strollers, blankets, baby bottles, baby wipes and baby formula.

Donations for both programs can be dropped off at Conte's district office at 1783 New York Ave. between 10am-4pm daily. For more information about either of these programs, call 631- 271-8025.
