Caumsett State Park Closed

Workers assessing damage; awaiting word from the state on when to reopen.

Caumsett State Park in Huntington remains closed Monday to allow park staff to clear trees and debris and to address possible damage issues as a result of Hurricane Irene.

Park facilities will reopen once it is considered clear and safe for park visitors, according to the state park service.

At , no significant damage has been reported. The park manager is currently assessing possible damage to the beach and other areas of the park, according to a worker in the operations office. "There's trees down and some dangling limbs," she said.

The state parks department is expected to give the word by 5 p.m. today regarding park openings.

All state parks were ordered closed Monday in the aftermath of the hurricane.
