An Author Event for Kids, Enjoying the Holidays Without Gaining Weight

5 Things You Need to Know Today: Nov. 10

Kids are always anxious to start thinking about the holidays as early as possible. Today at 10:30 am, Author Carol Aebersold will be at Barnes & Noble in Huntington Station for a special children's event featuring her holiday book, The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition. Based on a tradition the author began with her family in the 1970s, the activity book becomes a delightful game of hide-and-seek as Santa's scout elf (included with the book) is found hiding in different locations on his mission to seek out the naughty and the nice. Adults may want to do some early holiday planning of their own - including how NOT to gain weight during the upcoming weeks of festivities. "Eat, Drink and Be Merry - Holiday Survival Guide" will be presented at 7 pm tonight at the South Huntington Public Library. Join professional weight loss coach Margaret Marshall as she introduces you to the "Holiday Survival Guide," which will allow you to partake in all the traditional foods and merriment this season without the extra weight from holiday eating.

The Town of Huntington will be hosting a Veterans Day party today from 11:30 am-2:30 pm at the . There will be a Veterans' Parade, U.S. Army Color Guard and members of the 69th Battalion who will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Entertainment will be provided by Richard Katz. The event is free and open to all.
