UPDATE: LIRR Says Rush Hour to Be Normal

Derailment cleared, no disruptions expected

The Long Island Rail Road said it expects normal rush hour service this morning after earlier warning of problems caused by an Amtrak derailment.

The MTA had said the LIRR may run reduced morning rush hour service, including the possibility of canceling as many as 24 trains. But the derailment, which was blocking service in an East River tunnel, was cleared away.

Customers are urged to check on LIRR service before heading to train stations by monitoring the MTA website, or listening to the latest news broadcasts and traffic reports.
