A Weekend of Holiday Fun

This weekend is packed with concerts and events for the whole family

Huntington announced the holidays in a big way during the past week, with thousands of people visiting town for a , a , a  at Prime to benefit Huntington Hospital and a  at town hall.

Things aren't about to slow down any time soon, with this weekend offering holiday events for all ages and interests. Santa will visit with children who have long lists of holiday wishes, latkes will be eaten, dreidels will spin and songs will be sung. SATURDAY

 will host the  at 8 pm for an evening of holiday songs, including "Over the River/Sleigh Ride" and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" among other favorites. Tickets are $12 or $10 for seniors and students and can be purchased at the door or in advance at the  office. 

Shop at the Christmas Market and Craft Fair from 9 am - 4 pm at  in Huntington Station.  Handmade items and a variety of other goods will be available for purchase.

Applebees in Huntington is hosting "Breakfast with Santa" from 8:30-10:30 am. There is a $10 donation per person with all profits being donated to Toys for Tots. Reservations are required. Call 631-427-3504, and don't forget to bring your camera.

Michaels Craft Store in Huntington Station invites you to create your own handcrafted holiday decorations that you can keep for yourself or give as gifts. From 10 am- noon the class is free with the purchase of an ornament.  

The Diocesan Choir of Rockville Centre will present Advent Lessons and Carols at 4 p.m. at the  in Huntington. The 50-minute service consists of scripture readings, choral anthems, and hymns from the Advent season. The members of the 120-voice Diocesan Choir come from parishes throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties. 

SUNDAY

 and  have joined forces to help children in need this holiday season. For three Sundays in December, the 5th, 12th and 19th, Porto Vivo will host a family brunch with Santa. In addition to tradition of bringing children to visit with Santa and run down their wish list for the holiday, children also have the opportunity to give a gift to those less fortunate this holiday season. Children are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy to Santa who will deliver the gifts to children at the Huntington Hospital's . Brunch will begin at 10:30 a.m., with Santa arriving at 11 a.m.

Celebrate Chanukah at  with fun for the whole family at a party sponsored by Sisterhood, Men's Club Brotherhood and the Chai Club. Bring your menorah for a lighting ceremony and enjoy latkes, a dreidel tournament and more from 3:30-6:30 pm in the Social Hall. Dinner is $5 per person or $15 per family. Email to RSVP.

The Walt Whitman Birthplace State Historic Site is hosting a Yuletide Family Day from 1-3 pm. Bring your own camera for pictures with Santa. Spend a fun day with your kids as you decorate cookies, play old-time games and make an ornament. There will also be seasonal face painting and a holiday sing-along with Mike Soloway.  Cost is $7 per child and chaperones are free.

Friends of Jazz returns to the  for a holiday jazz concert at 2:30 pm. This collection of local musicians has performed at public and private venues from Mattituck to Manhattan since 2002. The group is best known for its annual Happenings on Main Street concert in Northport Park for the past eight Labor Day weekends and for numerous public library concerts. The concert is free and open to all.

There's a Chanukah Party at the Walt Whitman Mall at 5 pm. Featuring Israel Landman with the Torah Magic Show and Ventriloquist. There will also be a Menorah lighting, Chanukah Gelt, Dreidels, holiday music and donuts. Fun for the entire family. Call 631-385-2424 for more information.

The  Annual Holiday House Tour takes place from noon-4pm. Every year the Society arranges tours of local residences that date from Colonial times through the current century. The owners of these houses open their homes as a service to the community to demonstrate life styles throughout our country's history.  Each house is chosen for its distinct design and historical details Refreshments are served, as part of the tour, at one of the Society's museums.  A tour of the museum is included.

 is hosting their Holiday Open House from 1-3 pm at Coindre Hall. This family event will feature characters from the organizations new coloring and activity book "Vincent Van Monkey" as well as group mural making, studio tours, face painting and more. Learn more about Splashes of Hope and their mission of bringing smiles and joy to patients and their families with their hand-painted murals 

If your pets are part of the family, why not include them in the holiday photos? Get your picture taken with Santa and your pet on Sunday from 5-7:30 pm at the Walt Whitman Mall. No reptiles please.
