Taking Angels to Another Level

Huntington artist hoping her Angel Jewelry will take flight to local stores. Read the touching story behind her art about a 911 hero.

When I made my first Angel Necklace in July of 2011 I had no idea the affect it would have on people, especially myself. After many years of working as a graphic designer I tried to find exactly how I could combine my creative talents with something that really had meaning for people. I found it in the midst of sadness when I learned last summer that my dear friend, an FDNY Paramedic, was diagnosed with cancer 10 years after her service at Ground Zero in the days and weeks following September 11th.

After hearing this horrible news I struggled to find a way I could support her in her battle to fight this cancer. I then remembered a story her mom told me of how as a child she loved collecting nuts and bolts, picking them up off the ground and stuffing them in her pockets only realizing she had done this when she heard metal banging around in the washing machine. As an adult she always told me how she felt like she was being protected by an Angel. She survived a very serious car accident after being given her last rights. In another car accident, afterwards she relayed to me that she felt the arms of an Angel wrap around her to protect her from serious injury. At that moment everything came together! I decided to use my dad's old wing nuts as the Angel wings combined with colorful beads, wire-wrapped slate, colored glass stone and my creative ability and made the first few Angel Necklaces. As the weeks went on I created countless Angel Necklaces and with the love and support from family, friends and her FDNY co-workers I was able to raise money for her as a show of support during this difficult time. After this successful fundraiser I am happy to say she is now cancer free! In doing this I received such wonderful feedback on my unique design and I was told several stories of how these Angels have in turn helped other people after they received them, supporting them with strength & hope in a difficult time in their life. This was bigger than I had anticipated. That's when Rock & Metal Treasures was born.

I now have the opportunity to take my Angels to a higher level through my Kickstarter Angels Take Flight Project! Kickstarter is the world's largest funding platform for creative projects and every week generous people pledge money to projects from the worlds of music, art, technology, design etc. My goal is to raise funds for this project in a limited number of days and offer Angel rewards for your angelic deed. The Angel Take Flight Project will afford me the funds to more efficiently create, produce, package and sell my Rock & Metal Treasures Angel line of Jewelry in local Huntington stores. Each Angel is one-of-a-kind and now I have expanded my line to include Road Angels to hang from your rear view mirror, keychains and Pink Ribbon Breast Cancer Awareness Pins. I have a few other Angel ideas flying around in my head.

I truly believe Angels inspire courage for us to persevere through adversity. Something so simple has affected me so greatly and I would love to share these Angels with my fellow Long Islanders. If my Angels can have a specific meaning for someone who is going through a difficult time and offer support or give them hope then that is the greatest gift that I could ever give or receive.

Please support my Angels Take Flight Project because without your help my Angels will be grounded. There are a limited number of days left to pledge your support and receive the rewards I have offered.
