Professor did not need to hear my voice to know I had one

I loved my first semester of college. Psych 101 and a funny professor were great combination.  I learned about the brain and memory -afraid it didn't help me much on my test! depression and difficulty sleeping - advice for my grandma and behaviors - still can't figure out my ex boyfriend. Health 101 I had a professor who was like a mom, she worried and cared about me! thought I was great! worked for me! so summer and I should be at the beach BUT I love school! was supposed to take sign language class at Nassau Community College BUT changed my mind they said it was very hard! community work too - last minute saw Anthropology 101 class open at Queensborough Community College - my college and registered.  Anthropology I thought it was about fossils and dead, old things - how hard could it be! first day professor who was young and HOT gave out course requirements - all I was thinking was GET ME OUT OF HERE! 5 months of work in 5 weeks???? fossils and dead old things were just one sub field. Everyday we had to read an article and write pre discussion and post discussion. Autobiography report, ethnographic studies, class participation - hey I'm non-verbal remember! I told the professor at the end of class sorry I was dropping out! he was hot but not that hot! too much work! he said "NO" I could do it! wow! I had to stay after that because he did not PREDETERMINE!  I am so happy I did! he taught me he didn't need to hear my voice to know I had one. He didn't care how anyone wrote, grammar, spelling, short, long, it was more important what you had to say...Perfect for me! he let me do sign, point, dynavox, anything to participate and I think my hand was up more than anyone! he would say when reviewing for final "I think Dayna knows the answers" because he looked at my face. He taught people how to think, how to want to think. I read "The Gender of Brazilian Transgendered Prostitutes", "Chasing  the Bloodtie: Surrogate Mothers, Adoptive Mothers and Fathers", ethnic cleansing in Yugoslavia, reading by Mahmood Mamdani and more. I was reading and understanding topics from Harvard, Duke, Columbia.  It made me remember when I was in 11th grade and I had to read a book.  I googled LOVE and Tennesee Williams plays came up.  I wanted to read "glass menagerie" but english teacher said "no"it was too hard and had sad ending not love story.  She wanted me to read "the toothpaste millionaire maybe third grade book.  I said "no"and read "glass menagerie" I really liked it .After I read  "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". The english teacher made Predetermination that I couldn't understand it.  The Anthropology professor made predetermination everyone could understand .  He did lecture about topic and then we did reading.  He said read beginning and end - it worked.  My biography was on Jane Goodall and work with primates and sign language.  She said "the least I can do is speak out for those who cannot speak for themselves." I got a B+ in the class, it was the hardest class I ever took! I told the professor it was like going to the gym for your brain every day.  I will never forget my professor, I wish people would all be like him! NEVER PREDETERMINE!!!
