Lupinacci Offers Initiatives To Bring Meaningful Relief for New Yorkers

Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci (R,C,WF,I-Huntington Station) today sent a letter to the New York State Tax Relief Commission detailing his proposals for tax relief in New York State. The Commission, co-chaired by former Gov. George Pataki and former State Comptroller H. Carl McCall, was created in August with the mission of submitting recommendations to the governor that address New York’s burdensome tax climate.

“Our state has become famous for taxes and road blocks, which hamper our hardworking citizens and entrepreneurs,” said Lupinacci. “Recently, New York State was ranked last in the nation in business tax climate for the second consecutive year by the Tax Foundation. The new Tax Relief Commission is being led by two of our state’s most respected leaders, former Gov. Pataki and former Comptroller H. Carl McCall, and I know they will take these important recommendations into consideration as they examine new ways to reduce the burdensome taxes facing our businesses and families.”

The plan detailed by Lupinacci contained proposals to enact a full repeal of the MTA Payroll Tax, a full repeal of the state’s temporary Utility Assessment (18-a) and the continuation of the current middle-class income tax rate. Lupinacci also addressed the need for business tax relief, including establishing a proposal to enact toll relief for businesses located in Nassau and Suffolk Counties and providing businesses with incentives to hire currently unemployed New Yorkers. The proposal submitted also included relief for municipalities and businesses by ending the practice of unfunded mandates imposed by New York State.

“By enacting policies that allow our local entrepreneurs and businesses to grow, and encouraging other businesses to open up shop in our communities, we can help get residents back to work and strengthen our economy. I look forward to carefully reviewing the Commission’s recommendations this December so we can jump-start next year’s legislative session by enacting meaningful relief for New York’s taxpayers,” concluded Lupinacci.

The New York State Tax Commission will make its recommendations to Gov. Cuomo by December 6, 2013 for inclusion in his 2014 State of the State message.
